This time of year there is always a need for a good pair of jeans but I feel the summer jean has it’s own style agenda too.
They need to cover my pale British legs for the chilly first part of the day, yet still work well for the warmer or hot as hell afternoon, then go back to guarding my pins against the Mosquitos in the evening when sitting al fresco with my glass of wine. Jeans will always be in my capsule wardrobe. Come to think of it they are the main staple of my capsule wardrobe. My uniform. They have always been a staple of my style but even more so now I have to play a goalkeeper in the front garden on a weekly basis! They probably should have their own freestanding wardrobe of their own. They could in fact probably have their own 37 piece capsule wardrobe with sub categories. Cue a slight cringe and the risk of saying goodbye to some jeans one day. Another post…..another post. Phew!
Personally, my summer fave jeans this year are:
(Left to right)
My gap boyfriend destructed dark wash jeans
My gap always skinny destructed vintage blue jeans (got them for $11 a pair in the sale so have them in the tall length and the regular length that make a nice little ankle grazer jean)
My grey H&M skinny jeans (needing every bit of stretch in those baby’s!!)
My gap real straight raw edge hem destructed jeans
My J brand love story dark wide leg jeans
Who works the summer Jean best?……….in my opinion, Queen Kate of course. Good old Mossey never misses the style target with hers. Yes, I know, I know, Kate Moss is probably only as big as my 8 year old son! I look nothing like her. I have a bust, I have hips, I have a tummy and a penchant for a biscuit with my latte. But no one can deny her of her fabulous style and her ability to make basic simple pieces go beyond the call of duty. She is photographed buying her cigarettes at Tesco Metro and still looks bloody amazing wearing just a white shirt and denim shorts.
Skinny & Blue
Skinny distressed jeans worn with loose linen tees/tanks. Bit of a cuff with a gladiator sandal. Love it! Worn down with a heel & blazer in the evening. Done! Dark indigo skinnies work so well with a smart jacket.
Skinny & Grey
Skinny grey jeans are fab for summer. Think kimono jackets, peasant blouses, denim sleeveless jackets. Think boyfriend plaid shirts undone and flowing. Panama hats & Breton tees. Rock’n’roll tees (although these days my life is more rock’n’roll tea!). If you have no kiddliwinks or a steady hand for drinking coffee or red wine, then go ahead and think white blazers. Love grey jeans for this.
Skinny & Black
Lovely with gladiators and a tank or loose linen tee. A necklace and a boho fedora for festival time. Simple and chic. I like to wear mine with my denim sleeveless jacket.
The carefree Boyfriend style, distressed or pale. Love mine with casual tees, possibly a slogan or images. I love my Zoe karssen tees with boyfriends or my amplified David Bowie tee.
Works well with a slouch tee tucked in. Preferably a Loose silk or linen. Job done!
Grab your boho floppy hat and fifty bracelets and off to Coachella you pop!
White denim is hard for me to pull off . Personally, Skinny white jeans are a ‘no no’. My friend and I had a bloody good laugh during a lunch break ‘try on’ skinny white jeans session. So thinking white denim territory for me is probably boyfriend style only. Even at that they would have to be ripped to hell so I didn’t look too preppy. I’m also hesitant to venture to the land of white jeans as I already buy enough Resolve oxi-action stain remover with two boys!

Summer 2015 Denim trends
Culottes and cropped wide leg jeans
As for this Summer’s contenders, I fear they may be difficult to work with???? I’m of course only thinking of my body shape and style lifestyle etc. Maybe it’s just my comfort zone or just my ‘Spidey’ senses telling me to stay the heck away. I’m going to have to try some on in a fitting room as opposed to making any transatlantic orders from the British High Street. Gap and h&m have their version of denim culottes . I think I’m going to brave the Zara version as Zara currently has their magic summer sale on and I have just ordered them for $25!! I could, of course, look like a sack of potatoes in them but at least I can make my boys laugh hysterically and then return them and say hello to the lovely crew at my local Zara. FYI, I believe it’s always important to make friends with the sales crew in your favourite shop. This helps with any guilt of shopping bulimia from online orders or madness shopping purchases. These are the shopping trips fuelled by too much coffee that made me hallucinate that I was two sizes smaller than I actually am, and that I would indeed fit into the beautiful fringed top that was left in size XS!!
Way too many beautiful photos of the seriously cool Queen Kate in this post. Every day I would like to look like her in my jeans……….. I don’t! But at least I don’t look like this chap?! Wtf??
I don’t know what’s worse? Is it the fact he didn’t look in the mirror before he left the house or doesn’t have someone in his life to have a quiet word in his ear? Or is it the fact he’s drinking a Bacardi Breezer beverage? Jeepers bloody creepers. Keeping this image small. My eyes are sore already!!
