Well, lets face it, plain and simple, I’m a complete and utter bloody stripe addict – always have been and always will be. I recall my beloved ‘Jacko’ cuddly monkey which I adored when I was a little kiddliwink, probably about 3 or 4 years old, sported the best striped overall dungarees a cuddly monkey could ever wish for!! We’re talking 1970’s overalls at their best. I had some serious stripe envy over those! You see, a stripe addiction and an eye for outfit potential is just in my blood. Mr LAGS & Mr Bank Manager, there really is no point bloody fighting it!!
The Chanel Resort Collection, Havana, 2017
Hands up, who loved the stunning coverage and beautiful images floating across the web of Chanel’s epic resort collection in Havana last week?! Karl Lagerfeld never fails to leave me in awe with his creativity and genius when it comes to the Chanel runway shows. From models rushing for flights in airport scenes, to waltzing around the fair and riding a merry-go-round or walking down a wonder of the world, the Great Wall of China. His creativity never ceases to amaze. On May 3rd, 2016, he showcased the Chanel resort 2017 collection at Havana, Cuba. It was an exciting major fashion production to arrive in the city now that diplomatic relations have been restored between the United States and the Castro regime.
I adored the subtle french influence of the flat brogues, the sparkly Beret’s and the wide legged cuffed trousers. Yet, a big applause was granted for the hispanic inspired ruffles and Panama hats. The two pieces that struck me like a thunderbolt were the Panama’s and maybe more predictably, the striped trousers. We do love a bloody good stripe, don’t we?!

The Vintage Inspo
Vintage Stripey Trousers have me thinking of the 60’s and the iconic Mary Quant or Biba days. Stripes in colour as well as the monochrome statement in black and white. Sublime!

A little swipe on the iPad and a browse on Net-a-porter always follows after a game of Junior Monopoly with my boys. Lets face it, it’s the only time I will ever likely have paper cash in my hand with which to go ‘hell for leather’ on a shopping rampage. It may be pretend cash, but if it was ever going to be real, then look at these fab stripes!

The Asos images here nail the look for me. This is exactly how I would wear stripey trews, everyday of the week.

A little bit of Toppers
Topshop has my heart at the moment. They are currently in a league of their own – in my book, anyway. Huge applause for the magnificent striped trouser trio here. The Harleyford Blazer and Trouser winning double act is sublime. A true representation of the epic pieces Topshop Unique design and carry. I equally love the contrast hem detail of the Boutique version of the striped crop trouser. I feel these would dress up and down like a dream and would happily walk with heels or trainers. Then there is the incredible pleated palazzo striped pant. I feel they are way beyond their high street price tag and probably one of those pieces in your wardrobe that you’ll rely on for when you are heading out and don’t know what to wear. They are absolutely bloody gorgeous. Let’s all put our hands together for Toppers!

Styling the Stripey Trews
Look at these striped gems in action! They dress-up and down like a bloody dream. Perfect with a pair of trainers, tee and a denim jacket over the shoulders. You could waltz down to the shops or meet a mate for a coffee in your stripes. You’d look stylish, comfy and most importantly, by dressing them down with whatever you fancy, before you know it, you are nipping around Farm Boy doing your groceries in full-on personal style. No sheep-following blah-dressing please! However, at a moment’s notice when you need to get ready in 10 for a night out, the striped trews are ready for the limelight. Throw on an off-shoulder top or black tank, blazer over the shoulders with strappy heels and you’ll have that glass of vino in your hand before you can even blink! What is not to love about the striped trews?? They work hard in your wardrobe by working with simple pieces and fellow prints. Don’t be scared to mix them with florals or animal prints. They can tick the Capsule wardrobe box, if you are dedicated to wearing them for all occasions and they tick the sustainable fashion box, if you only buy the one pair (shopaholics,
well mainly myself, take note) and vow to worship Livia’s Firth’s rule of #30 wears! Done and dusted, in my book!
Love a good stripe loves…….. The Stripey Trews
As I look at the striped trousers hanging in my wardrobe, I can’t help but smile. For me, they are my ‘go to’ when I don’t know what to wear if I’m popping out for a drink with a friend. I grab them in haste if I’ve got a ton of clothes strewn across my bed and the Uber cab pulls up outside the house. Yes, I can hear my lovely Dad’s voice echo at the back of my mind with “bloody hells bells, what Circus did you escape from?” and yes, my 6-year-old looks at me and laughs declaring “Mum, you look ridiculous, you’ve put a Zebra on your legs”!! But these striped baby’s hide a white wine spillage like a pro, have an elastic waist for the sushi “eyes bigger than my tummy’ dinner and make me smile as I catch a raised eyebrow from the blah-ville dolly in her safety net of beige. Long live the stripey trews.
Here’s how I wear mine…….
Wearing: Gap 1969 denim jacket, Gap tee, Zara crop stripe trouser (Current), Zara cowboy sandals
Wearing: Topshop black open front blazer, Gap tee, Zara crop stripe trousers (Current), Zara stud brogues
Go forth, do your very best on the stripe front line!
