I am head over heels for the little black ribbon that is on the scene at the moment. This little ribbon has been the cherry on the cake for many of the Fall outfits that have flashed our way recently. The High Street style giants, Zara and Mango, have styled it to perfection with their boho 70’s inspired outfits. I love the pussy bow and dreamy, loose-tie blouses. However, if you want a little trend updater without dishing out a bit of cash then look no further than the little black ribbon.
The vintage inspo
I adore this stunning image of Bianca and Jade Jagger I found on Pinterest. I love how Bianca simply owns her style. The little black ribbon is the subtle focal point of her wonder white ensemble here. The classic statement of the white shirt, jacket and trousers works so well in contrast to the simplicity of the little black ribbon. The young, but oh so cute, Jade, is happily skipping behind her. Bianca epitomizes the style icon title she so clearly deserves to hold. This is the perfect image for vintage inspo of the little black ribbon.
Today’s style set
Who is wearing the little black ribbon at the moment? You know it’s a winner when it’s won the hearts of the super cool style set and fashion bloggers!
The high street store
Zara has shown huge admiration for the little black ribbon in their Fall/winter’15 collections. Here are some of their beautiful lookbook images.
Buying your little black ribbon
Look no further than your haberdashery or textile shop. I bought a couple of ribbon reels from my local craft store, Michael’s. The best bit about buying a roll is that it gives you the freedom to cut lengths that suit all your black ribbon style needs. You will need different lengths for the bow tie, the neck tie, the scarf ribbon, etc. No shopping guilt with this beauty as a roll of ribbon sits around the $4-5 price point. I made sure I bought a good quality satin and velvet ribbon as I didn’t want to look like a bloody birthday present fresh from the dollar store!!

The little black ribbon joins the capsule wardrobe
This works a treat in the capsule wardrobe. Firstly, a bloody bargain, so say no more! But what I love about it is that it takes your wardrobe staple pieces and helps them transcend into this trend. I love the little black ribbon as a bow tie with my denim shirt in the images above. At the beginning of the season I definitely had my eye on the Zara pussy bow denim shirt. It was one of the first things to go on my wish list. But with the magic touch of the little black ribbon, I am happy to work my current wardrobe staple denim shirt and save those wish list pennies for something else. I also applauded Kate Moss at the Mango press event recently as she gave a respectful nod towards Bianca Jagger’s styling of the ribbon. I love how the ribbon hits the spot with your wardrobe staple white blouse. From a couple of simple pieces along with some black skinny jeans and you have an outfit that is ready for a night on the town without having to think too hard or shop for something new. Done and dusted.
I love this little black ribbon and all the outfits that are possible with it. I won’t bore you with countless outfit photos. But I’m confident that you will spot it in an Instagram photo or two coming to a screen near you!!
