I did something silly this week. I went on the Mango website to look for their version of the denim culottes. This was purely a research visit to Mango for my summer Jeans post. The only problem is that I thought, let’s take a sneaky peek at what else they have. I did so well last year with Mango’s summer collection. Why I did this, I only have myself to blame. The problem is……..
I’ve seen a bag that I can’t stop thinking about!
My sensible head tells me I have enough bags for summer. I have enough!
My heart says, it’s the perfect blend of monochrome and boho.
My head says, aren’t you working on a capsule wardrobe?
My heart say, this epitomizes a capsule wardrobe, all in one bag?! wtf?
My head says, it’s just a bag to carry your bloody wallet, phone and keys
My heart says, you’ve just seen another blog post regarding this bag….it’s a winner
My head says, be good
My heart says, f@&$ it!
Whenever I get my knickers in a twist about a potential wardrobe purchase, I diligently reach for some note paper. My battle strategies are:
1) The cost of the item and the cost per wear factor. I aim for $1 per wear….ish;
2) Do I have one I can part with & sell – the ‘one in one out’ philosophy;
3) How many items of that catergory do I already have (only for the very brave days)?;
4) How many outfits will it work with?;
5) How many occasions can it see daylight?; and
6) Will it go on sale soon?
The item in question is (…….drum roll) the Mango ethnic fringed clutch bag. It’s bloody lovely (sigh).
The ‘Fringed ethnic clutch’ is $59.95. Not crazy but I have to factor in shipping fees and duty tax. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
I know my style spidey senses are not wrong on this one. I have seen it featured on a few of my favourite blog reads.
I know it will work with so many pieces in my wardrobe; denim, stripes, grey, black, white.
I missed out last year on buying one of the great summer clutch bags from accessorize/Monsoon. Justification???
So let’s think about this sensibly. The Summer bags I already have are:
The big bag camp

I have a great railroad ticking stripe messenger fabric bag that I bought from an urban craft sale. The lady was a lovely french woman who also has a penchant for stripe and came by an abundance of industrial ticking stripe material. I could happily afford this beautiful bag. I wish I could have bought the blanket throws and bed throws she had for sale too. Stunning!!
My stunning All Saints Jackson tote. Bought this last year in England. It is a beautiful soft black leather with gorgeous animal print calf hair detail. There is nothing this bag can’t carry. Love it!
I have a beautiful French Connection tan leather tote bag (complete with kitten scratches on the front from a naughty little ‘Winston’ kitten!) that I got half price in a summer sale two years ago.
Love my Cath Kidston green canvas messenger with badges and patches of a England towns. Great size which happily stores drink bottles, baby wipes and the odd granola bar. My Dad bought this gem for me from Bicester Village, Uk. Is it wrong for me to request I have my ashes strewn there? I love Bicester shopping village!!!!
The trusty messenger bags

The lovely ‘pillar box red’ leather satchel from the UK company, Zatchels.
The adorable black canvas star print bag from Kate Spades Saturday range,
My beloved silver Cambridge satchel company bag. This was the silver satchel the company sold with their collaboration with J.Crew. Love this bag. It never fails to make me smile and is now full of scratches and wear that could tell a story or two!
The Cath Kidston club Every British expat has one at leaste!

The cheery ‘buses’ bag from Cath. Last year when returning to Canada from a family visit to the UK. I picked up a cheery happy bag at Heathrow airport. The boys (big & small) were happily reading their football/soccer magazines and consuming as many Curly Wurly chocolate bars as they could. I quickly nipped into Cath Kidston (surprise!!) and bought my lovely British bus bag. Super cute size and shape. You know it’s a winner when you start to use a bag as soon as you’ve walked out the shop.
Look at this beauty!! This is the bag designed to comemorate the Queens Jubilee. Beautiful navy blue canvas with pearl buttons and vintage style brass pins. Love this bag!! A couple of summers ago, I went back home to the UK for a visit. I went to Bicester Village with my Dad (our little tradition). I bought him a sausage for lunch from Jamie Oliver’s pop up food stop, he went and bought this gem for me. I think I fared well in the trade!! Not only a lovely bag but a lovely memory of a great day out with Dad at Bicester.
This is a gorgeous bag that I bought for my little boys. I thought it was the perfect size for books and colouring equipment. I gasped for breath when I saw a felt tip marker get within an inch of the bag. Then realsied that I love it too much for ‘Mucky Pup’ boys, so kept it for myself. I get a ton of compliments on this baby!
Love my CK red rose floral oilcloth tote bag. Great with denim. A match made in heaven with stripes. I get lots of compliments on this one. Again, a fab Dad purchase from a few years ago. My lovely Dad must get bored waiting for my Mum shopping. After five lattes in Pret a Manger, he heads over to Cath Kidston, to see what his ‘Flickers’ would like. Thank you Dad! Xx
Lovely Leather bags

My beloved black leather Mulberry Roxanne bag. So cool! Say no more!!
The naughty Brown leather boho bag I bought from ‘Change of Heart Boutique’ in Crouch End, London. Love this bag, but I honestly did not observe that the letters s-e-x were punched into the bag, when I bought it? I thought it was just a random few punched stud holes. Maybe it was the lighting?? I was too distracted and lured in by the beautiful textured patches and ‘love’ lettering. This bag is 11 years old and the leather is beautifully worn. Cute little handles with a detachable strap. I drag this baby out every summer and laugh when I read the punched out letters. Such a blonde moment!
The Mat n Nat vegan black zipper bag. I bought this little gem from AMH style boutique. It is another vegan product from this fab company. I love the fact that parts are made of recycled pop bottles. I love the zipper trim detail and love the detachable strap. Very cool bag.

My lulu Guinness lips clutch. This was an amazing gift from my Mum for when I gave birth to my youngest son. This gem came from the duty free Harrords shop and Has been featured in fashion books and editorial articles. It even has a little spot in the Victoria & Albert museum, London. How cool is this bag!!!! It’s very special, can’t believe my Mum parted with this for me and so it’s a special ocassion only bag.
Lovely little Herschel pouch. Love the laid and polka dot pattern. Works well with denim!
Lovely little Cath Kidston red rose floral clasp clutch. Super cute!
Fab little black canvas white star print fabric pouch from Kate Spades Saturday line. I love a little star or two!
The Ember Skye black leather clutch with gold zipper detail. Cameron Diaz has this one and was photographed with it. I bought it from a fabulous consignment boutique. Great for a night out. Works a treat with a black blazer, tee and jeans.
My All saints Jackson calf hair clutch bag. A birthday gift last year from my parents. Love it!
The Beach and Park bags
So, as its summer…… I better throw in the bags I use to cart stuff to the beach, park or the day trip crew. I have a few good bags that do the job nicely and I picked up pretty cheap.

Orla Kiely for Tesco jute bag in grey – from the Rickmansworth Tesco store opposite my friend’s house. I literally knocked on her front door gasping for a cup of tea with 10 of these falling from my arms. Great bags. Thanks Orla and thanks Jane for the cup of tea!
One in, one out?
Well, a review of this list, I have no bag contenders to be sent to the land of eBay. Booooooooooo!
I have also have benefited from this blog post. It has made me fess up to what I have already. It’s made me realize what bags I love and what memories they hold for me. It’s made me think a little deeper than I normally would.
To stop and distract me from staring far too long at the Mango website page. I had a little shop around to see what else was out there.
I found these little gems.

Love this clutch. It’s a designer collaboration with Madewell. Rachel Comey is an NYC based designer known for handcrafted touch Items with an urban feel.
It was originally $390 and now $299.
How fab is this? Crazy Lulu. Love it! It’s one too blow the budget. Actually it’s one to blow the mortgage. Still so fun! She is bonkers!
Lulu Guiness disco ball clutch bag $624.
I need to make myself feel better now. I need to remember I’m on a mission to establish a capsule wardrobe. A capsule bag wardobe. I seem to have amassed a few bags but they are all keepers. At least I’m not at the point of Kate Moss’s bag closet. I am fully aware that my tax return looks very different to the one of Kate Moss’s. I’m fully aware that I don’t have the holiday schedule or social diary of Kate Moss. But for now, my wardobe doesn’t look like this. So surely, a little Mango clutch could sneak into mine?? Cue, angelic smile!!!
To conclude my heart says the Mango bag is still a winner. It is right up my street and one that will make me smile. Goes with everything that I wear and sooooooooo summery.
My head says, stop it. Go check the wardrobe and find something that no longer fits to sell. I have a few things that are snug due to the cobwebs on my elliptical trainer. My heart also tells me to look over the fabulous bags in the photos. All full of memories and moments. Should I be holding the Mango clutch when I can be holding the Cath Kidston pearl button bag? If I go out at night with friends, should the Mango finge clutch see the wine glasses on the table or should it be the lovely Lulu lips. Sometimes it’s good to really look at what you have. Not just the opportunity to frantically write down what I have, what I am going to sell & what I want to buy. But as a capsule wardobe wannabe, I should just look at what I have. Photographing these bags has helped me really grasp visually, what I have and what I don’t need. I’m a lucky girl in my stripes today!
But in the meantime, maybe some alternative ‘not so wise words’. Here is another lovely bag sourced and gifted from my Dad. He is establishing quite the reputation for an eye for bags in this post!! He spotted this gem at bi ester whilst waiting for my Mum. It’s fabulous and so silly. Over the top is an understatement. But didn’t he do well!!
So there we go. Possibly every birthday gift for the last 10 years from my parents c/o Dad being bored at Bicester. Result!!
Do I need the Mango fringed clutch? Do I risk it & wait for the Mango sale? what can I sell on ebay for guilt-free shopping funds? Maybe I should pay a visit to the outlet village and see if I can spot anything there. Decisions, decisions. I shouldn’t be buying a bloody summer clutch anyway. Should I?? God, I’m exhausting myself now.
I’m aiming for summer bag style to be more like this……….
And less like this………
This backpack is available from Ali Express.Com. I know you want one! Which colour are you ordering? What will you put in yours? This cute pup has her Nicotine patches and a miniature of Gin.

WARDROBE NEWS ALERT…….WARDROBE NEWS ALERT…….WARDROBE NEWS ALERT……..WARDROBE NEWS ALERT …….
Bring out the comfort cup of tea and Victoria sponge cake. It is with great sadness I inform you that the Mango fringed clutch has sold out (sob sob). The lesson learnt here is stick to your gut feeling and if it is something unique and lovely, then buy it. Better to buy one thing you love than three things that were a bargain/looked cute on someone else/the latest thing on Instagram, etc, etc. Soooooooooooo bloody sad and could kick myself. Naturally, now think is the only bag ideal for this Summer. Anyone in the US can still grab it, what’s more it’s in the sale!!!! (I’m in serious pain right now!) However, so disappointed that Mango US won’t ship to Canada. Help!!!!!!!
Learn from my mistakes!
