So much love for the latest new little addition to my wardrobe possibilities. I adore a dash of sparkle, a dash of spangle and I also love to be able to pay my mortgage so therefore no trips to Cartier for me today! However, stand aside for this brilliant little bargain that will put a little glitter into your Spring 16′ step. Absolutely loving the glitter sock at the moment.
This is the perfect trend for me to enjoy at the moment. The Canadian Spring time can literally have you in a tank top and sunglasses one day and yet the next day you wake up to 10cm of snow and you’re dragging your sad, sorry, cold arse and parka out! There is currently still some iced-up, dirty, chunky snow lying around at the moment but at this point I really don’t give a flying f*&%!! I am absolutely bloody done with Winter and hell-bent on chasing Spring. So off I go marching into April, sticking my fingers up at Ugg’s, Parka’s, Knits and the bloody middle tire I have acquired since hibernating with Gin and Kettle chips. I’m longing for little jackets, little layers,
a little stomach and little shoes.
So out come my beloved Trainers/Sneakers and Brogues that have been sat patiently in the wardrobe asking themselves “where the hell did she go?” They pair perfectly with the lighter coat brigade. The Stan Smith’s greet my biker jacket like old friends and the silver brogues wink at the bomber jacket and ask “you on?!” But on those nippy cold mornings before the sun warms us up, I’m forced to face the fact that blue ankles are not that attractive despite being a harsh reality. I’m no longer 19 years old with the “she’s young, she doesn’t know any better”. In fact, jeepers creepers, now I’m the ‘old’ with the “what the bloody hell is she playing at?” What I need is a pair of those lovely glitter socks that graced the Spring/Summer ’16 catwalk. Bingo!!
So, off I nip to Topshop to buy a pair of sparkle socks. Which colour? gold, multi-coloured silver or silver black? Yep…..off I go to pay for all three. Since when have I ever done anything in simple measures?! I reckon these sparkly gems have that bargain beauty feel of the Bandana from last summer. A cheap magic wardrobe trick to throw on and instantly you feel some nostalgia from happy days gone by with the addition of feeling just that hint of cool and little bit closer to the catwalk.
The Catwalk inspo
Loved spying the glitter socks paired with shoes and sandals on the Spring/Summer ’16 catwalks. I have a bit of a guilty pleasure of cool socks and shoes. Love the contemporary feel as it creeps very closely to the line screaming “Nora Batty territory”. Loved how YSL embraced the gold sparkle sock and paired it beautifully with these sublime options. Great with peep toes, ankle straps, flats and trainers. Done and dusted.

The high street offerings
I bought mine from good old Topshop. I particularly love their version as the roll top finish makes them easy to adapt any look and avoids any expert wrinkling or folding requirements. But I’m sure they will be everywhere on the UK High street and also with the online shopping giants such as Asos. As for the Canadian retailers….look a little harder and search the likes of American Apparel or Urban Outfitters.

How I wear mine
I run around like a crazy woman, a good 90% of my day. Flats and comfy trainers are my fail safe and only shoe option. So these little sparkle spangles add a nice little street-style touch to the Stan Smith collection!

The Saturday dress up
I’m not shying away from the glitter socks joining ranks with heels or patent leather. Especially teaming up with my ‘Going Out-Out’ shoe crew. Some of these shoes have gold medals for their length of service and duty to my wardrobe. Here are the glitter roll top ankle gems with my Zara black suede heels, my Zara stud black brogues, my Whistles patent leather button toe flats and my Zara bauble sling back heels.
I love how the sparkle socks can wave their magic wand and send some quirky ‘Spring spangle’ to my beloved Swedish Hasbeen sandals. Here they are ready to sparkle and spangle on a night out. I adore the concept that a cool sock can give you a cool contemporary feel to wearing your sandals, but also grant you permission to wear those favourite sandals of yours, a little extra time both before Summer and afterwards. Bingo!! I’ve teamed my Silver Swedish Hasbeen’s up with my fail safe Equipment star silk shirt and black skinny ripped knee jeans. Throw on some bracelets, cuffs and I’m good to go. Super sonic Gin and Tonics, here I come!!

The Sunday dress down
The sparkle spangle socks also skip happily along to the dressed down days in my wardrobe. I love them with my black and leopard Stan’s just as much as the white and green classic Stan’s. I think they’re brilliant with rolled up boyfriend jeans and a nice easy top. Done. I say, bring on the weekend Coffee’s and the kitchen table family board games. I should mention that the games are so much fun for the first hour, then after that, they snowball into refereeing the arguments and tantrums between the boys which then has me reaching for a glass of red before 5pm. Family life. Rest assured…..its always 5pm somewhere in the world!

I have such a weak spot for my brogues and these Boden silver version are 2 years old and still going strong. These silver beauts and a sparkle sock are a match made in heaven. Right up there, in my book, with Spanx and the April realisation of the hibernation Gin & Chip nights! Love the silver black mix and the co-ordinating dark laces. This is my ideal dress down clobber that would see me through any afternoon cinema date with my boys and yet take me into any ‘coffee and chat’ date with a mate. Love it!

So, there we go. This weeks happiness comes in the form of some $8 socks. What can I say? I’m easily pleased. Keep those ankles warm and join me in rocking back and forth…….. Spring WILL come soon!
