Who doesn’t love a little festival fever? Whether it’s Glastonbury or Coachella or the upcoming big North America festival battle of the bands between Osheaga or Lollapolooza ?
Festivals sum up for me; live music + warm beer + sunshine (maybe a few muddy puddles too?!) + Boho style = Happiness!
I feel there is an art to festival dressing. I instantly think of the lovely French designers Isabel Marant and Vanessa Bruno with their frills, fringing and flounce. They score perfection every time with these details that seamlessly always nail ‘darling and dandy’ as opposed to ‘drab and dead’!!
The annual festival dynamic double act hitting this side of the pond at the weekend are Osheaga & Lollapolooza.
Osheaga is celebrating its 10 year anniversary this year and held in Canada’s Montreal at the Parc Jean-drapeau.
Lollapolooza was conceived and created in 1991 by Janes addiction singer, Perry Farrell. Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois is host of this iconic event.
Who would I crown the Queens of festival style?
The ones who work the boho chic look so well. I applaud……..
Florence Welch of Florence + the machine
The ones who work the cool alternative look to a dream. I applaud……….
BBC Radio’s Jo Whiley
I absolutely love Jo Whiley’s style. I have a huge style crush on her. I love how real she is. She’s a working Mum who still manages to nail down the essence of cool and seems so at ease with herself. I met her once when working in London. Lovely lady.
What are the festival style rules?
Festival style conjures up images of flower garlands in the hair and pretty floaty dresses. Young dollies working the destructed denim shorts and crochet tanks looking fabulous and carefree. These gorgeous girls photographed at Coachella 2015 epitomize this. They work the ankle boots, accessories and pretty white to a dream. They also look like they have never had to get a Saturday job, eaten a steak & kidney pie with chips or washed the dishes?!!! (Well maybe that is just my misspent youth?!?)
My (not so über young) festival style rules are:
Revel in the Vintage pieces along with the iconic pieces
Stand out from the crowd
Eat a steak and kidney pie with chips………..well not really, but couldn’t resist!! Do it!!!!
My beloved Festival Boho chic pieces in my wardrobe
These are the pieces that make my summer wardrobe happy on an annual basis. I am a boho girl at heart in the Summertime. I’ve always gravitated towards the bohemian prettiness in contrast to my rock and animal print loving winter look. They seem to have become classics in my summer capsule wardrobe along with the annual tan lines (must wear more sunscreen. It’s not just for kids!!) and frizzy dry hair (must find perfect hair product for humidity hair havoc days).
I appreciate that it is currently the summer sale period where crazy flash sales are rippling across the high street stores and online shopping havens. Therefore I have indicated which shops, in my view, sell it best! Fingers crossed that if you happen to be inspired in any way then you may go on the search and find a lovely bargain!!!!
The boho top
Nothing beats a simple pretty white top for the summer. Pair it with destructed denim and a little brass or silver arm candy. I may have a slight obsession with the pretty white top (another time, another post!)

What I’m wearing today #OOTD
I have been too late at the game of purchasing tickets to Friday at Osheaga this year. So sad to miss a chance to see Florence running barefoot on stage singing ‘Ship to Wreck’. Florence + the Machine are playing at both venues this weekend. If I can get last-minute tickets (cue some daily desperate attempts) to see Florence at Osheaga, I will probably wear something like this..,,,,,,,
In the meantime as the sun is shining I will probably just sit in the boys teepee tent with a bottle of cider as my two little musicians provide the ultimate indie music experience. That little member of ‘The Jam’ you can spot, loves to compose songs about “Teddy bears “!!!! Rock n Roll baby.
