Why ‘Love A Good Stripe’? Because whatever style or trend I’m dipping my toe into, I can always rely on feeling mighty bloody fine in my stripes and denim. I love a good stripe. I believe it’s important to push your style boundaries, adding life and personality to your wardrobe but to always stay true to your individual style, comfort and what makes you, who you are!
A British birdie, I now live in Canada with my husband and two cheeky boys. For me, there is nothing better than having a
bottle glass of wine and delving into the world of the ‘wardrobe’. I’m a style enthusiast and fashion economist. I have a huge passion for fashion and style, researching its iconic history and the effect it has on our society. But as a self-confessed shopaholic who has been known in the past to get a little ‘silly’ with the Visa card fairies, I’m now learning to adopt the mighty words of one of my favourite designers, Dame Vivienne Westwood who wisely advised to “buy less, choose well, make it last”.
This mindful shopping approach not only keeps the Visa card fairies healthy, but since writing my blog musings, I’ve now come to wander down a path looking at sustainable fashion. I’m realising the effects that fast fashion is having globally on our planet, the lives of people making our clothes as well as our personal style and wardrobe self-esteem. Time to change my style mindset.
For this, I’m now working to slow my shopaholic shit, right down. I’m embracing some style formulae of: vintage, preloved, wardrobe classics and a little high street or luxe for good measure. Who wants to join me on this mission? Let’s have more individual style creativity and less of those hidden shopping bags at the back of the wardrobe, fresh from a shop mannequin! Hey, there’s no judgement from my end either, I’ve been there and done that!
Some quick fire Flic Facts:
I currently work full-time with pre-school children. However, my training and background back home in the U.K was in working with special needs children and delivering play therapy programs for sick children – particularly with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. I was lucky enough to work with some incredible kiddliwinks and their families both in Community London Health Care and at London teaching hospitals: Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Kids and The Whittington Hospital. Happy, happy days that taught me to smell the roses along the way and make every moment count.
It’s safe to say that I embrace an eclectic mix of influences from the punk, rock & beatnik scenes. A fan of vintage and heritage pieces thrown together with some sparkle and spangle gems from todays high street brands. Embrace the quirk, the unique and the ridiculous. It’s done and dusted with a big smile on my face. I don’t have a big closet space but could potentially have a bloody big Visa bill! I operate on a ‘one in, one out’ policy and so manage to bring in the new treats as I nip to the post office for an eBay sales run or pop to the consignment store with a box of pre-loved goodies. Never a dull moment and never a dull outfit!
